U.S. Representative John B. Larson (D-CT) visited the Glastonbury office of Connecticut Surgical Group, a group surgical practice with 14 locations in the greater Hartford area, on Friday, February 26. Urologist Arthur Tarantino, MD, led Rep. Larson on a tour of the facility and explained to the Congressman how the practice serves as a specialty care resource for the community.

Dr. Tarantino is Chair of the Practice Management Committee and a member of the Legislative Workgroup of the American Urological Association, which helped coordinate the visit as part of its ongoing efforts to educate members of Congress on the struggles facing today's urologists and how healthcare reform will affect not only patients, but also the physicians who care for them. The issues of health information technology (HIT) and electronic medical records (EMR) were also a key part of discussions during the visit.

"As Congress works to move ahead on healthcare reform initiatives, it is extremely important for lawmakers to consider the impact that programs will have on physicians and on their patients," Dr. Tarantino said. "I was very pleased to welcome Mr. Larson to my practice last week for a tour and to give him an opportunity to ask questions and provide answers."

Congressman Larson has represented Connecticut's First District in the U.S. House since 1999 and he serves as Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-ranking leadership position among House Democrats.
